Orange Aero supports BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car
Orange Aero / News
Orange Aero has purchased a 1/10 scale model of the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car as a way to support this exciting project.
BLOODHOUND is a jet and rocket powered car designed to break the current land speed record by reaching 1,000 mph. It is approximately 13.4m long, weighs 7.5 tonnes and the engines produce more than 135,000 horsepower – more than 6 times the power of all the Formula 1 cars on a starting grid put together! The car is a mix of car and aircraft technology, with the front half being carbon fibre like a racing car and the back half being a metallic framework and panels like an aircraft. The project is headed up by Richard Noble, and the supersonic car will be driven by RAF fighter pilot, Andy Green, who holds the current land speed record of 763 mph.
There is a BLOODHOUND Education Programme available to all pupils in primary and secondary schools, and to students in further and higher education. Nearly 4,000 schools registered in the first 18 months of the project. The team hope to inspire a new generation of engineers and to provide an iconic research and development programme with completely global access for students.
